Dalawahan / Doubles (Poem)

Author’s Note: This post was originally written in 2005 before I was married and has been moved here from a personal blog I no longer use.

Sino sa inyo ang may kaalaman (Who of you know about)
Sa larong badminton o sa tennis man? (The game badminton or tennis?)
Ito’y mga larong pwedeng “isahan” (These are games that can be played “singles”)
O kaya naman ay “pandalawahan”. (Or even “doubles”.)

Mayro’ng sapat na ang taglay na lakas (There are those who have enough strength)
Upang ang ‘Kalaban’ ay mapaatras. (To make the “Enemy” retreat.)
Sa isahan nagpapakitang-gilas (In “singles” they are excelling)
Pinili man o hindi kanilang landas. (Whether they chose to be in “singles” or not.)

Mayro’n din namang nakasusumpong (But there are also those who find)
Kanilang maaasahang katulong; (Their reliable helper;)
Anumang dumating hindi uurong, (Whatever comes they will never surrender,)
May katuwang palagi sa pagsulong. (Always having a partner in moving forward.)

Ngunit kailangan upang magtagumpay (But needed to succeed)
Mga pagsisikap na walang humpay; (Are unceasing efforts;)
Sa isa’t isa’y dapat umalalay; (Supporting each other is a must;)
Nagsasalita sa ikatitibay. (Speaking to strengthen.)

Kung ang kapares mo ay nasa kanan, (If your partner is on the right side,)
Sa kaliwa, likod, o sa harapan, (On the left, at the back, or in front,)
Ikaw ay dapat pumwesto kung saan (You should place yourself where)
Mababawi mo sakaling ‘di niya tamaan. (You can hit the ball in case he/she misses.)

Mahalaga nga ang pagtutulungan (Teamwork is really important)
Dahil lubhang malakas ang ‘Kalaban’; (Because the “Enemy” is very strong;)
Gamiting mabuti ang karunungan (Use your wisdom well)
Upang mga pagsubok malagpasan. (To get over trials.)

Higit sa lahat na dapat na gawin (Of all the things you must do)
Pamantayan ni ‘Coach’ alalahanin. (Remember the Laws of the “Coach”)
Kapareha mo’y laging unawain (Always understand your partner)
Yamang ikaw ay nagkakamali rin. (Since you yourself also make mistakes.)

Sa paglipas pa ng maraming taon (After many years pass)
May timplang asin pa ba iyong tugon? (Will your reply still be seasoned with salt?)
O ‘di kaya’y mainit pa sa pugon, (Or will it be hotter than an oven,)
Tuluyang naglaho na ang hinahon? (All mildness gone?)

Hindi posible ang pagkapanalo (Winning is not possible)
Kung laging mayro’ng pagtatalo. (If there is always contention.)
Dapat mabagal uminit ang ulo, (You must be slow to anger,)
Bawat salita’y puno ng respeto. (Every word full of respect.)

Tiwala kailangan sa kapareha; (You must trust your partner;)
Laging nagbibigayan ng suporta. (Always giving each other support.)
Kayo ngayon ay isa nang pamilya, (You are now one family,)
Magkasama sa hirap at ginhawa. (Together through hardship and joy.)

Pag-aasawa nga’y hindi madali; (Marriage indeed is not easy;)
Dapat panindigan iyong pinili; (You have to stand by your choice;)
‘Wag mag-alinlangan kahit sandali; (Don’t doubt even for a moment;)
Sa ‘yong kapares ika’y manatili. (With your partner you must remain.)

Kahit mahirap ang “pandalawahan” (Even though “doubles” is hard)
Ito’y nagdudulot ng kagalakan. (It results in happiness.)
Kung si ‘Coach’ lamang inyong pakikinggan (If you only listen to the “Coach”)
Panalo ang inyong pag-iibigan. (Your love will be a winner.)

Most especially composed for Mr. and Mrs. Pasion as their wedding gift, 18-08-12
